A little fun fashion advice!

Pulling Off The Oversized Look

A popular trend we are seeing a lot right now is oversized clothing. Celebrities are often photographed in their baggy t-shirts, boyfriend jeans or slouchy dresses. While this style is incredibly comfortable, it can sometimes feel a little too masculine and frumpy. If you are like me, you appreciate the look but would still rather look more like a woman than like a man. A way to add a little shape to the silhouette would be wearing a white oversized shirt with a more tailored jean—for example, a straight matchstick or skinny jean—in a dark wash. Cuffing just the bottom of the jean is a fun way to add contrast and show off your favorite flat summer sandals.

A surefire way to remind everyone that you are in fact female while pulling off this look is by adding colorful accessories. Wrap a skinny belt around your natural waist to accentuate your (or create the illusion of) curves. The great thing about the combination of a belt and an oversized top or dress is that you can create that coveted hourglass figure regardless of whether God blessed you with it or not. A narrow bangle bracelet and large ring in contrasting colors add pop to an otherwise neutral palette.

How you style your hair can also affect the outcome of the look. Wavy hair with a braid along the hairline adds a touch of effortlessness femininity to the ensemble. Another option to keep with the masculinity is to pull your hair back in a low bun with a thin headband in front to mimic the clean lines of the belt and bracelet.

Belts are a necessity for every woman’s wardrobe. If you don’t have one, you need to get one. If you can’t buy one, make one. I know you’ve been in a jam before and said to yourself, “Ugh, I wish I had a belt right now.” I know you are nodding your head in agreement right now, don’t deny it. So what are you waiting for? Keep your eye on sales and pick up a belt if you ever see it on sale. If you are having a hard time finding a belt to accessorize a certain outfit, make one. Just get some narrow ribbon and go to town. It would probably be a little tacky to just tie some ribbon with a big bow, so one option is to wrap the ribbon around your waist and use an old pin to cover the overlap. You know those old brooches your grandma gave you? Or those gaudy pins that you have always wanted to put on your jacket or blouse but have been too afraid to wear? Now you have the perfect use for them.

With a few tweaks here and there, you can wear any trend. And of course, add shade basics to the outfit to make it modest and comfortable! Find a style that you like and make it your own.

I love belts and headbands: they look cute, add shape and bling, and are easy! I love your idea for a homemade belt, too. :)
