Shade's New Striped Boyfriend Tee

There are so many ways to style our new Striped Boyfriend Tee! This tee is so great because the stripe gives you that extra "something" to your outfit, not to mention its amazingly comfortable! Here are a few ways that the girls here at Shade like to wear the striped boyfriend tee.

CK: I love the Magenta and white striped boyfriend tee paired with my skinny jeans and yellow and gold strappy flip flops. Add hoops for earrings and possibly even a pony tail!

Lyndsey: I would wear the gray/white striped boyfriend tee with black skinny jeans, my tall black boots and a colored scarf.

Valerie: I just wore the boyfriend tee this weekend! The grey and white boyfriend tee with a grey nylon cami underneath and shade’s heather wine varsity cardigan over it. I paired it with skinny jeans and my grey cardi uggs.

Megan: My favorite is the grey and white stripe. The neutral stripe allows you to wear it a lot of different ways. Here are some ways I like to incorporate this tee into my style:
1) Heather gray/white boyfriend tee paired with long cut-off shorts and white keds shoes. Add a bright side sling purse to top it off.
2) Heather gray/white boyfriend tee, paired with dark skinny jeans, a long knit vest and neutral flats, with a long necklace.
3) Heather gray/white boyfriend tee, paired with your favorite jeans, a black
sweater vest, and add a pop of color with flats.

And the Oscar goes to....

Sunday was the Academy Awards show, which in my opinion, equates to one of the best fashion shows you’ll ever see. I love the Oscars, but watch it more for the parade of incredible gowns on display than to see who actually takes home an award (although I like that part too). However most of the dresses are fairly revealing and could never be categorized as “modest” fashion, I think Oscar night is a time to appreciate fashion just for fashions sake. I’m sure we all have our favorite looks from the evening, so let us know who was at the top of your list. For now, here’s my list of fashion award winners from the evening.
Best dressed – Taraji P. Henson – The “Benjamin Button” star wore my favorite look of the evening...this dress is gorgeous.

Best use of color – Natalie Portman – The pink was fantastic and stood out in a sea of neutrals, grays and blacks.

Best metallic look – Anne Hathaway – The dress was all sparkles and glitz but it seemed like a perfect choice for the first time nominee
Best asymmetrical look – Kate Winslet – I’m not usually a fan of the asymmetrical look, but she made it work perfectly.

Best dressed couple – Diane Lane & Josh Brolin - they both looked great

Best dressed Man – Daniel Craig – need I say more

Aly "hearts" Shade..

Seeing that Valentines Day is tomorrow.. Aly wanted to share a few more thoughts on the products she "hearts" here at Shade.

"Cardigans. Can I just say how much that I ‘heart’ cardigans? Being in Utah where the winter lasts for what feels like 9 months, I wear a cardigan daily! So when Shade introduced their two styles of cardigans this past Fall…to say that I was stoked would be an understatement! They have become a staple in my wardrobe and will continue to be. Look for our new cardigan’s coming this Spring…stellar!

Swim tops! If you haven’t had a chance to check out our swim line this season, please do so! This is such a fun line and I am having a hard time limiting myself to just buying 2….or 5. Every style is adorable and the prints and colors have been my favorite yet! There is such a good variety that appeals to all demographics and body types. My favorites by far are the Venice Beach print in charcoal and magenta, the Hermosa Beach in white and charcoal and the Naples in navy and plum! Just one look and you will soon ‘heart’ the swim line too!

I have been an employee of Shade Clothing since what feels like the beginning and I am so grateful for the continuing concept and mission of Shade. I purchased my first item (a white camisole) in September ‘04 and have been hooked ever since! Shade truly has made such a difference in my fashion life! I wouldn’t give up my ‘collection’ of Shade for anything!"

Thanks Aly and Shade "hearts" you back! I hope everyone has a great weekend and a very Happy Valentines Day!

The reasons I "heart" Shade by Aly

Modest Clothing
With Valentine’s Day just up ahead, and after all ‘tis the season of love, I thought that maybe it would be appropriate to share with you a few of the products that I "heart" here at Shade...

Basics: strap camisoles, caps and tanks. I think that I would have nothing in my wardrobe to wear if it weren’t for the reliability and quality of my basic layering pieces that I have collected over the many years at Shade. Never having to worry about showing too much skin is a thing of the past, and that has made clothes 10 times more comfortable! They are the essential to any woman’s wardrobe and I for one would be lost without them.

I have many reasons I heart Shade, matter of fact too many to list for one day, so I'll save some to share for tomorrow as well.. and feel free to tell us why you "heart" shade too!

Recipes by CK: Sugar cookies

If you are into Valentine's Day, you will most likely be eating some sweet treats—or making them. Desserts like red velvet cake, chocolate cake/cookies/brownies, and sugar cookies make this holiday deliciously fun. I figured I'd share my favorite recipe for sugar cookies that I posted on my food blog a while ago. I know it's re-posting but, I'm sure none of you saw that, so I figure it's ok. I mean, it's a free recipe, right?

Cream:
1 c. butter
2 c. sugar

Beat in:
4 eggs
2 Tbs. milk
4 t. vanilla
1 Tbs. lemon extract (this slight lemon flavor really sets these cookies apart. it's not enough that a citrus hater would be turned off)

Add:
4 t. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
5 c. flour

Chill dough 30 minutes to an hour. Form into balls then smash down with bottom of floured glass (about 1/4 inch thick, these cookies should be about the same thickness as those pink grandma sycamore's cookies and a little smaller in circumference.) Bake at 375° for 6-8 minutes.

Frosting:
1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
1 t. vanilla
1/8 tsp. salt
4 c. powdered sugar
2-4 Tbs. milk

In large bowl, beat butter and shortening until light and fluffy. Add vanilla and salt. Beat in powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, scraping down sides of bowl. Add 2 Tbs. milk; beat at high speed until light and fluffy. Add enough additional milk for desired spreading consistency. **(This frosting may be made up to 2 weeks in advance and kept in and airtight container before serving. Bring to room temperature before serving)**

Seriously So Blessed Makeover

We are so excited that we’ve had a chance to participate in the Seriously So Blessed makeover (http://seriouslysoblessed.blogspot.com) that we had to tell you about it . For those of you not familiar with this witty blog, go ahead and pop on over. We’re sure you’ll enjoy yourself. After sorting through hundreds of entries, TAMN (the author) narrowed the contest down to 6 worthy finalists and allowed the readers to vote on the winner. We never imagined the stories that would surface from this makeover contest, but we are looking forward to working with Emily, the makeover winner. Here’s her story.

"I'm Emily and I'm in total need of a makeover! I had two babies, 1 year and nine days apart. Our first, sweet Lilly, only lived 5 1/2 miraculous and amazing weeks. Such a joy that we decided to get pregnant again. Our next was a little boy, Ryker, born with a different birth defect, and lived 7 weeks at Primary's before passing. We are both in school, both work full-time, and are hoping to adopt. The makeover, the pictures, all that, could really help with our adoption and help me to feel good again (more human!)."

If you want to read about the other amazing finalists, click the link to the Seriously So Blessed blog and scroll down...you’ll come across all of the incredible stories. Thanks to TAMN for putting together a contest honoring these amazing women.
